elfs are out there for the PS2, but generally, those are the ones you hear about the most. Now, this is only the tip of the iceberg of what. Keep in mind, that HDLoader only works with PS2 games. There is a hard drive solution for the slim, but it involves USB drives and since the PS2 has 1.1's, the load times aren't that much better than the actual discs and FMV's stutter a lot (at least in my experience). HDloader is great, lets me load games of any region (though PAL games won't on my NTSC TV) so that I get better load times, and much less wear on my PS2's lasers. On my 'fat,' I use a slide card until it broke and then bought a flip top case. On my slim, I taped down the buttons so that the PS2 thinks the lid is closed. There is a launcher for PSX backups/imports, but you need a way to swap without pressing the eject button (since that triggers the PS2's disc check). Runs DivX and XviD files okay to my experience, but I haven't used it extensively. It can access files through a network, an attached hard drive, the memory card itself, the USB port, and I think even the DVD drive.

When I get around to it, I'll upload a pic to show what I mean.Īs for SMS, that's actually a media player, and a fair one at that. elfs, FreeMcBoot essentially takes over the default OS screen of your PS2 so that you can load whatever you feel like configuring from your OS screen. elf files and backup/upload PS1 and PS2 saves to my memory cards.īut you don't need to fire up uLaunchElf every time to load. elf files (which are basically PS2 executables), copy PS2 and PSX saves (with the right tools on your computer to convert any save into raw saves), and much more.

Of course, to run PS2 backups, you need to patch the image file and use ESR to launch it.Īs stated, uLaunchElf is essentially an file explorer/browser utility that lets you do quite a lot.

ELF files, from MC using Swap Discs? I mean, I trust dlanor, he said more than once he's done it with his FMCB incompatible PS2.I've been following the PS2 non chip modding scene since the advent of the Independence Exploit, which was much more complicated than what can be done now.Īs others have already said, Free McBoot essentially gives you a modchip on a memory card that you can take and use on almost every PS2 out there (I think the newest models defeat it, but I'm not sure). Usb Advance Ps2 Slim Free Download Free Memory Card Boot (FMCB) v1.95 along with v0.97 of the Installer has been released by developer sp193, FMCB & Installer has been updated and built with the latest PS2SDK and a number of changes as outlined in the changeslogs that developer Aldostools was kind enough to post for us and alert us of this latest release.

Also in that same thread both he/she and another forum member explain how to actually boot ELF files from USB driver using hotkeys with Swap Magic.Īll that being said (sorry for the wall of text), my question is: How can you boot uLE, and more in general. This is are the posts where he discussed about this topic:īut I've also found another thread where a PSX-Scene contributor, ShaolinAssassin wrote that you can't boot uLE from MC. ELFs from a PS2 memory card other than booting them from a USB drive, and he was referring to doing this on a FMCB incompatible model. Now, reading all those threads a notable PS2 modding scene member, dlanor, has stated that he uses Swap Magic to boot uLE and, more generally that you can boot homebrew software. Now, I've read a bunch of threads on various PS2 modding forums and apparently the only way to softmod my PS2 is to boot uLaunchELF (or maybe even the new project wLaunchELF) using a Swap Magic.

So at this point I can say I'm quite sure my new PS2 is with bios 2.30. All of those installations worked on my hardmodded PS2 and thus FMCB booted with mc inserted, but none of them made FMCB boot on my new PS2 model. I tried cross region, cross model and multi installation. So, I installed FMCB on a mc with my old hardmodded PS2. BIOS won't let your PS2 be compatible with FMCB.

Actually, it could be potentially compatible since it's a SCPH-90004 R-Chassis 8C (you can see it in the attached photo), and models with date code were made some with BIOS 2.20 and some with BIOS 2.30. In the past few days I've been trying to get as much info as possible and I found out that my new PS2 model isn't compatible with FMCB.

I recently bought a second ps2 slim version (I already had and still have a PS2 slim modded in 2004 with a Modbo chip, SCPH-70004) and I want to softmod this new purchase in order to play my backups from PC via the Ethernet cable using OPL.
